Bike Theft Prevention Message for the Public

We have seen an increase in reports of bicycle theft during the school summer holidays. With more children and young people out enjoying the warmer weather, bikes are often being left unattended outside homes, shops, parks and other locations, making them an easy target for thieves.

Please remember to always secure your bike, even if you are only leaving it for a very short period of time. Opportunist thieves can steal a bike in a matter of seconds.

Some simple steps you can take include:

Use a good quality bike lock every time you leave your bike.

Secure the bike to a fixed and immovable object.

Avoid leaving bikes unattended outside shops, homes or public places without a lock.

Store bikes securely at home, ideally in a locked shed, garage or inside the property.

Consider registering your bike and recording its frame number.

By taking a few simple precautions, you can greatly reduce the risk of your bike being stolen and help keep your property safe throughout the school holidays.

If you see anyone acting suspiciously around bicycles or bike storage areas, please report it to Staffordshire Police
